  1. My remote quit working, or I have to get real close to the electric opener to make it work. Do I need a new remote? Not necessarily. Check the battery first. You may only need a new battery! Or in some cases the battery contacts may have some corrosion and need to be cleaned with emery cloth or sandpaper. If these two suggestions don’t work, then maybe the receiver board in the electric opener is bad and needs to be replaced. Call to schedule a service call.

  2. My door opens with my remote, but won’t close. Why?First check the photo eyes to ensure that nothing is blocking them. Are they properly aligned? Are they illuminated? If they are not illuminated try unplugging the opener from it’s electrical source for 30 seconds. This will reset some units.

  3. I want to bypass the photo eyes on my electric opener. How do I do that? All garage door openers manufactured after January, 1993 are required by Federal law to have an external reversing feature as an added safety requirement. The major manufacturers have chosen to use the infrared photo eye system to comply with this law, therefore this safety feature is a fail-safe system. What that means is the system will not close if the photo eyes are disconnected or not installed.

  4. Does my garage door and electric opener require routine maintenance?YES! In fact most owners’ manuals tell you what types of maintenance should be done to keep the door and opener in good operating condition. Preventative maintenance, done on a regular basis, will prolong the life of both your door and opener. If you can’t find the manual, e-mail us and will send you details.

  5. My door won’t open. What’s wrong? If you have an electric opener, first disconnect the opener from the door (door should be in the closed position) by pulling the emergency release cord. Then try opening the door manually. This helps to isolate your problem to the door OR electric opener. If you cannot easily open you door manually, then you probably have a broken spring or some other door problem. If your door has large coils (springs) across the top and you see a separation then you have a broken spring. Some electric openers will open doors with broken springs for a limited time, but you risk damaging your opener if you continue to use your electric opener to open a door with a broken spring.

  7. Can I install my garage door myself? We always recommend that a professional installer perform all service work. Garage doors are large heavy objects under high tension. Mishandling can cause serious injury and further damage your door and garage.

  8. Do I still need springs if I put an opener on my garage door?Yes, garage door openers are designed to open a door that is properly balanced with the correct springs. Without springs the door will be too heavy for your opener.
