The best way to see if your garage door is balanced properly is to disconnect the door from your electric opener if you have one. Open the door approximately half way and release it.
If the door stays where you let go of it, then it is balanced properly. If however it does not, that means the springs need adjustment. This is something that should be done by a certified garage door technician as the springs have a lot of torque on them and could cause severe injury or even death.
